Some Useful Wedding Outfit Inspiration Tips

If you are looking for some useful wedding outfit inspiration tips for the next big event, we have some wonderful ideas for you. The first tip for wedding outfits is to find out what the expectation of formality for the event is – usually this is indicated somewhere on the invitation. The expected dress for the event will help you determine what type of wedding outfit to wear.

Formal Attire
If the invitation states formal attire, the expectation is that men would wear a full suit or tuxedo and women would wear a formal, floor length gown. Some invitations will specify colour for the event, or simply “black tie”. Men have it easy in this category, any black or dark coloured suit or tuxedo will be suitable for the event, coupled with a white or coloured shirt, a tie or bow tie and dress shoes. For women, the most suitable wear would be a floor length formal dress, in any colour. However, it is important to remember to not wear white to the event, so as to not “show-up” the bride in her white wedding dress. However, it would be prudent to find out if the bride is wearing a coloured dress, and to ensure you aren’t wearing the same colour.

Semi-formal Attire
Semi-formal attire is slightly more relaxed than formal attire for wedding outfits. The general expectation of semi-formal attire for men is a suit with tie, or dress slacks with a sport coat and no tie. Women can wear any dress or coordinated pant-suit, however not in white or the colour of the bride’s dress. You can choose a shorter cocktail dress, a mid-length or full length formal gown. For a fancy aspect, a pant suit that coordinates is acceptable, and can be easily dressed up with some jewellery.

Business Casual
Business casual is not often attire stated for a wedding, however, if this appears on your invitation, the expectation is similar to semi-formal, mostly for men, however women have slightly more clothing options to choose from. Consider anything you would wear to a business work environment – a dress, slacks and a dressy sweater or blouse, or anything professional. The key to business casual is that jeans are not acceptable for anyone to wear to the event as a wedding outfit.

Casual attire
Casual attire means anything goes for anyone to wear. You are permitted to wear jeans to a casual event.

If wedding outfits are not stated on your invitation, it is safe to expect semi-formal or business casual as a minimum expectation. Unless otherwise stated, you should never wear jeans or casual clothing as a wedding outfit. Have some fun dressing up for the event that you’ve been invited to and share in the special day of your friends or family.
